A school nurse from Fife Primary Health Care is assigned to the school and visits on a regular basis to meet pupils individually and in groups on specific health care issues.
The nurse is also available on a consultative basis to offer general advice, support and guidance to school staff and pupils.
All pupils have individual Health Care Plans; the keyworker is responsible for ensuring that Health Care Plans are updated when needed and certainly after every school/LAC review. The school nurse is fully informed about the health care plan of each pupil and their specific healthcare needs.
We understand that assessing sensory processing difficulties will lead to more effective programmes and education/social outcomes. For every pupil the school carries out a sensory assessment both on enrolment and at every review to help identify and gain an understanding of the young person’s particular profile of sensory issues. Prior to enrolment pupils and their families also complete a “What Helps Me” document which assists staff in their understanding of that individual and their individual needs.
The school has access to consultant Educational Psychologists and Occupational Therapists. These professionals contribute to staff training and advise on care planning and specific challenges faced by the child.
